Your son is starting to get interested in books and reading. Keep the daily time you spend reading with children, approximately 20 minutes and half an hour. If you read, it will be easier for your child begins to read independently, as you will want to imitate.
The best thing to do is find a series of books your child enjoys. This may be difficult at first, but it will be very helpful. If you are not sure what your child will enjoy, you'll need to start somewhere. Ask him what he likes to read or what topics are of interest to him. Find a book for him to start reading and see if it works for him.
Some children do better when technology is involved and that's another reason why a Kindle makes a good tool. You can use the computer or purchase the actual device so either way will work for your child.
Don't stop reading to your child once she is able to read on her own. You can certainly still help her build and improve important comprehension skills by pausing and asking questions every so often. However, the descriptions of the different dishes, the ingredients, the cooking preparations, and the plating of these foods so that they are appealing to the eye in preparation for the gustatory sampling of them, have been so mouth-watering, that I walk around hungry all day and dream of sugar-plum fairies at night who are baking these wonderful concoctions for my discerning palate.
I'm guessing it's a little of each. The old-school part of me can't wait to hold a copy of my book in my hands. The snobby part of me agrees with the dreamer in me who can't wait to have a book I've written picked up by one of the 'big six.' But the rest of me knows a book is a book, published is published, and dreams come true in all shapes, sizes, and, these days, mediums.
